<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video file processing method with which when a video file is opened, video images can be displayed while being reflected with creator's intention. <P>SOLUTION: If control information is present in a video file (step S1:YES) and the control information is first control information, on the basis of the first control information, it is judged whether to make an initial video image into a stereoscopic view video image or into a planar view video image (step S2). In the case of the planar view video image, planar video display processing is carried out (step S6) and it is judged whether the user makes a stereoscopic instruction (step S7). If the user makes the stereoscopic instruction, stereoscopic display processing is performed (step S3).
