PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory system and control method thereof are provided to improve the performance of an apparatus by reducing the storage area of the meta data. CONSTITUTION: A first memory(120) stores a normal data and master metadata which indicates logic and physical address for accessing normal data. A control logic(160) stores the first memory by creating the compressed metadata corresponding to the updated metadata. The compressed metadata is created by enabling the control logic to pressure the bitmap data which indicates a different between the master metadata and the updated meta data. The bitmap data is created by integrating the master metadata and the updated metadata.
