<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to efficiently input data on a mobile terminal, an electronic paper, and the like, even when the user inputs characters or numbers while holding a device with one hand. <P>SOLUTION: A data input device having a touch panel displays an input button group of a first hierarchy on the touch panel, and displays an input button group of a second hierarchy corresponding to a button selected from the displayed input button group of the first hierarchy. As a result of the same operation repeated further, while sequentially displaying input button groups of at least two or more hierarchies, button selections are sequentially accepted, and finally input data is fixed. When one button is selected from a displayed input button group of an upper hierarchy, an input button group of a lower hierarchy corresponding to the selected button is displayed at a determined position on the basis of a display position of the selected button.
