<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mat which has high shear strength, appropriately low bulk, and high flexibility; requires low production cost; has excellent in handleability during wrapping when processed to a holding sealer; and is hard to generates wrinkles or the like during the press fitting. <P>SOLUTION: The mat has a first principal plane and a second principal plane positioned at the opposite side of the first principal plane. The mat is constituted by inorganic fiber entangled each other, and composed of at least two layers of a first layer occupying in a certain region in the mat thickness direction from the first principal plane and a second layer adjacent to the first layer. The first layer includes a first filament while the second layer comprises staple fiber having the mean fiber length shorter than the first filament, and an entangled part is set from the first principal plane to the second principal plane. The entangled part comprises the first filament and the staple fiber entangled more closely as compared with the inorganic fiber which composes parts besides the entangled parts. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
