<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately discriminate an unnecessary region to accurately extract the unnecessary region from an intraluminal image. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus 1 includes a first determining unit 16 and a secondary determining unit 17, and extracts a halation region that is an example of the unnecessary region from the intraluminal image. The primary determining unit 16 determines a halation candidate region on a basis of a first feature quantity based on color information of the intraluminal image.
