<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate association of a detector with an imaging subsystem. <P>SOLUTION: There are provided a method and a system for operating an X-ray imaging subsystem (30) with an X-ray imaging detector (32). Each subsystem (30, 32) may be one of many that could operate with one another to create X-ray images. An association is established between the imaging subsystem (30) and the imaging detector (32), and a user-perceptible indication (32, 34) of the association is generated. The user may be prompted to confirm the association. Thereafter, the two subsystems (30, 32) may be used together for X-ray imaging.
