<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which facilitates provision and/or maintenance. <P>SOLUTION: An optical module (100) includes: a module housing with a side part of an adapter, a rear side part of the adapter, a pair of larger surfaces and a pair of smaller surfaces; and a cable housing region (202). The side part and the rear side part of the adapter are extended between the pair of the larger surfaces and the pair of the smaller surfaces of the module housing. The module further includes: a front cable introduction opening (302) provided on the side part of the adapter; and a front cable path (402) in communication with the front cable introduction opening.
