A corona ignition system and method for igniting combustible gaseous mixtures includes the detection and control of arcing such that when arcing occurs, it is detected and the voltage to the igntitor increased to ensure sustained arcing foi a period of time and of such quality that combustion of the mixture occurs through spark ignition for a period of time, after which the voltage is decreased to restore ignition by corona discharge only. |
