<p>Disclosed is a surface acoustic wave device having excellent resonance characteristics and filter characteristics, and wherein spurious events and ripples are inhibited. The surface acoustic wave device (1) is provided with a piezoelectric substrate (10), an IDT electrode (11), and a dielectric layer (16). The region to which the IDT electrode (11) is formed contains an intersecting region (C) and a non-intersecting region (D). The intersecting region (C) is a region wherein an electrode digit (12a) of a first interdigital electrode (12) and an electrode digit (13a) that is of a second interdigital electrode (13) and that is adjacent to said electrode digit (12a) intersect in the widthwise direction (y) of intersection. The non-intersecting region (D) is a region wherein the electrode digit (12a) of the first interdigital electrode (12) and the electrode digit (13a) that is of the second interdigital electrode (13) and that is adjacent to said electrode digit (12a) do not intersect in the widthwise direction (y) of intersection. A non-intersecting region section (16a), which is the portion of the dielectric layer (16) formed at the non-intersecting region (C), includes a portion having a different thickness in the widthwise direction (y) of intersection.</p> |
