<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce standby power of information device. <P>SOLUTION: A notebook personal computer has an Ethernet controller. The notebook personal computer operates intermittently a DC/DC converter which supplies electric power to the Ethernet controller by setting a timer. During a period of time Twake in which the converter is in the ON-state, it is determined whether the Ethernet controller is connected to a network by a cable. If it is determined that it is connected to the network, operation of the DC/DC converter is maintained until the connection is released. If it is determined it is not connected to the network, the DC/DC converter is stopped for a period of time Tsleep and actuated again when a preset time set by the timer elapses.
