[Class 55 (i)] Tarry gases trom gas producers are heated to decomposition temperature by combusting a part thereof, then mixing the hot combustion products with the remainder and introducing the mixture into the producer. In one form, the apparatus consists in a producer having an upper chamber 1 fed with fuel, particularly lignite, through a valve 2. Tarry gases, distilled from the fuel by hot gases rising from the combustion zone are extracted by a fan and pass towards burners 5. The gas stream is divided, part passing to the burners via pipes 7, where it meets air entering through pipe 8 and burns into chamber 6. The remainder passes through pipes 9 to a mixing zone 10, where it is decomposed by the sensible heat of the combustion products from chamber 6, the whole, at a temperature of about 1,000‹ C., passing via passages 11 and ports 12 into the producer. Here it rises through the glowing coke layer 13, the combustion products undergoing reduction. In the lower part 22 of the producer the remaining coke is gasified by air entering at 20 ; producer gas so formed mixes with the decomposed tarry gases at 13, and the mixture, less the part rising through shaft 1, leaves the producer through ports 14 and gas outlet 16. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the preheating of primary air and steam supplied to the bottom of the producer, for example by heat exchange with the gases ieaving outlet 16. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.</p> |
