<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber preform that can efficiently form good soot body in a short time by optimizing soot-forming conditions, and can reduce a manufacturing cost. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an optical fiber preform includes a step of depositing glass fine particles on a target rod by a OVD method using a multinozzle burner 10. The velocities of a combustion auxiliary gas and a combustible gas are controlled so as to satisfy the relations: ¾V<SB POS="POST">is</SB>-V<SB POS="POST">if</SB>¾>¾V<SB POS="POST">os</SB>-V<SB POS="POST">of</SB>¾, V<SB POS="POST">is</SB>≥V<SB POS="POST">of</SB>and V<SB POS="POST">is</SB>≤40 m/s, wherein V<SB POS="POST">is</SB>denotes a velocity of the combustion auxiliary gas discharged from first injection channels 121 of the combustion auxiliary gas annularly arranged outside a raw material gas injection channel 11, V<SB POS="POST">if</SB>denotes a velocity of the combustible gas in the vicinity of the first injection channels 121 of the combustion auxiliary gas, V<SB POS="POST">os</SB>denotes a velocity of the combustion auxiliary gas discharged from second injection channels 122 of the combustion auxiliary gas annularly arranged outside the first injection channels 121 of the combustion auxiliary gas, and V<SB POS="POST">of</SB>denotes a velocity of the combustible gas in the vicinity of the second injection channels 122 of the combustion auxiliary gas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
