<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element and a photoelectrochemical cell having high conversion efficiency and exhibiting excellent durability. <P>SOLUTION: The photoelectric conversion element containing a photoreceptor has a semiconductor fine particle layer adsorbing dye on a conductive support. The dye contains at least one kind of dye consisting of a compound represented by the formula (1), and at least one kind of dye consisting of a specific compound (In the formula (1), Q represents a tetravalent aromatic group, X<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and X<SP POS="POST">2</SP>represent a sulfur atom, an oxygen atom, or CR<SP POS="POST">1</SP>R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>independently.
