<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevents a foreign substance from intruding into an entrance while gradually stopping driving of a passenger conveyer, when the foreign substance comes close to the entrance of a moving handrail. <P>SOLUTION: A moving handrail safety device 11 includes: a base part 12 installed on a floor in front of the entrance 8a at a predetermined interval from the entrance 8a; and a detection pole 13 which is installed upright on the base part 12. The detection pole 13 is pressed to a moving direction of the moving handrail 7, and thereby, is rotated around a lower end and tilted. In a fixed case 15, a detection switch 23 for detecting rotation of the detection pole 13 is installed.
