<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoconductive element comprising a hole-ejection preventing reinforced layer allowing acquisition of a high-grade image having high sensitivity, high resolution and high S/N by suppressing dark current, and to provide an image pickup device. <P>SOLUTION: The photoconductive element comprises a translucent substrate, a conductive film formed on the translucent substrate, a hole injection preventing layer formed on the conductive film, and a photoconductive layer formed on the hole injection preventing layer.
