[Class 83 (iii)] An automatic lathe with a rotating turret 3 includes an auxiliary unit for additional machining of a work-piece, which unit comprises a support 8 automatically to receive and hold work-pieces delivered by the turret, and a tool-holder 4 whose approach movements are perpendicular or oblique to the longitudinal axis of the work-piece. A gripping member 2 on the turret 3 transfers a machined blank to a bevel-closing chuck 8 operated through a drawspindle 9, levers 13 and a yoke 14 by cams 16 and 17 on the lathe cam-shaft 18. The chuck is advanced by a cam 29 and returned by a spring 28. The tool-holder 4 is provided on an electrically-driven drilling-machine and is advanced by levers 36, 37 actuated by a cam 34. The work is indexed by a cam 26, the spindle 5 being held by a lever 24. Finished work-pieces are ejected by a spring-pressed bushing 19. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 6, the blank 45 is turned end-for-end during the transfer operation. A collet 44, mounted in a member 43, is journalled in a holder 41 on the turret. As the turret rotates, a peg 48 fixed to a rack meshing with gear-teeth on one of the journals, contacts a cam-member 53 fixed on the lathe frame, thus rotating the blank through 180 degrees. |
