<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distance measurement apparatus which enables accurate measurement of a distance, extends the range of the measurable distance and can easily adjust a mechanism, and to provide a projector provided with the distance measurement apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The projector includes: a light source device; a light source side optical system for guiding a light emitted from the light source device to a display element; the display element; a projection side optical system for projecting an image emitted from the display element on a screen; the distance measurement apparatus 1; and a projector control means for controlling the light source device and the display element. The distance measurement apparatus 1 includes: a laser light-emitting device 2 for irradiating a to-be-ranged object with a laser light; a light-receiving lens 4 for condensing a reflected light from the to-be-ranged object; and a light-receiving element 3 for receiving the reflected light from the to-be-ranged object transmitted through the light-receiving lens 4.
