摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which can properly read a document regardless of differences in paper quality and the condition on a reading plane and even when the document is transparent, and furthermore reduce cost of its document detecting structure. <P>SOLUTION: A document detecting structure is placed at a conveyance path 23 on the upstream side of a document reading position 100. The document detecting structure comprises a detector 33 which vibrates by receiving a conveying force from a document 10, and a reading unit which reads the position changing state of the detector 33. The detector 33 comprises a detection arm 35 and an interlocked arm 36, and holds the interlocked arm 36 so that the arm 36 can be displaced between an operation position where the arm 36 crosses the document reading position 100 and a waiting position. An image sensor 18 at the reading unit reads that the interlocked arm 36 is at the operation position or the waiting position, and detects the front and rear edges of the document 10.
