PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently fulfill a function as an auxiliary brake of a retarder regardless of driving condition and to share an ECU.

SOLUTION: A retarder control device 1 includes: a retarder 2 including energy conversion means 3 for converting rotation energy to electric energy and heat dissipating means 4 for converting the electric energy to heat energy to dissipate heat; a temperature sensor 5 for detecting a temperature of the heat dissipating means 4; rotational speed detection means 6 for detecting a rotational speed of the heat dissipating means 4; and a control part 7 for performing such control that the generation of electric energy is reduced when the temperature detected by the temperature sensor 5 exceeds a prescribed threshold. The control part 7 sets the prescribed threshold variably in accordance with the rotational speed of the heat dissipating means 4 and performs such control that a generation of the electric energy is reduced when the temperature of the heat dissipating means 4 detected by the temperature sensor 5 exceeds the prescribed threshold corresponding to the rotational speed of the heat dissipating means 4 detected by the rotational speed detection means 6.
