NOVEL GENE CODING FOR ESTERASE

PURPOSE: A novel esterase gene isolated from compost metagenome and a novel esterase expressed from the gene are provided to be used in detergent, paper industry, and agricultural chemical. CONSTITUTION: A gene encoding esterase has a base sequence of sequence number 1. The esterase has maximum activity at 50°C and pH 10.0. The enzyme is activated under the presence of methanol and prevents hydrolysis of beta-lactamase. A method for hydrolyzing fatty acid comprises a step of reacting fatty acid with C2-C10 with esterase under the presence of 1-5% of methanol.
