<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-receiving element that has a quality resistant to oil, fat and dirt and has high mechanical strength and that facilitates a position adjustment with respect to a reference position for mounting when assembled with other components, an optical pickup device having the light-receiving element and a manufacturing method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The light-receiving element 10 includes a light receiving part 102 and a base substrate 101 on which the light receiving part 102 is mounted. On the base substrate 101, a frame body 103 which has a thickness greater than the thickness of the light receiving part 102 in the direction perpendicular to the mounting surface is formed around the light receiving part 102.
