The axle (21) has a deformable cross-piece (4) whose end is fixedly connected to a suspension arm (2). A front end of the suspension arm is connected to a body shell of a motor vehicle by a joint. A rear part of the arm receives a retainer (14) of a suspension spring and a support (10) during assembling of the rear axle. The retainer of the spring and the support constitute an integrated assembly (22) before assembling the rear axle, where the support includes a support face (12) that co-operates with an elastic suspension course end stop. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a semi-rigid type assembled rear axle.
