The method involves pressing one of metal sheet components i.e. light metal sheets (12, 14), of a connecting punching rivet (16). The metal sheet component is replaced by a repair component. A through-hole is formed in the repair component, which stays in overlapping with a rivet hole of the other metal sheet component remaining during pressing. A repair rivet is pressed into the rivet hole and the through-hole, where the repair rivet is designed as a semi-tubular rivet or blind rivet and consists of aluminum base alloy or coated steel. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a tool attachment for use on a hydraulic or pneumatic drive unit of a blind rivet tool (2) a repair rivet for replacement of a punching rivet of a punching rivet joint.
