The present invention relates to a method for controlling a tension profile of a web comprising the steps heating and calendering the web so as to plasticize the web, measuring the tension profile of the web, and profiled treatment of the web in accordance with the measured tension profile of the web in the width direction of the web by profiled heat treating the web or/and profiled application of a mechanical force. Further, the present invention relates to a corresponding web tension profile control apparatus.
