The adapter has a housing that is provided with a housing rim, and a closure for receiving batteries. An adaptor device (30) is provided in the housing. The adaptor device forms a receiving space in an opposite side of the housing. A battery is accommodated in the receiving space. The adaptor device is inserted in different positions in the housing, and the receiving space is variable in size. The adaptor device is provided with a set of contact surfaces (33, 34).
