A steering apparatus for a vehicle is provided with electric switches (20L,20R) on a steering wheel (12) that are to be operated by driver's fingers. The switches (20L,20R) send signals for an actuator (17) to steer the vehicle wheels (W) so that the driver can increase or decrease the steering angle by operating the switches without changing the position of wheel grip on the steering wheel (12). Each of the switches (20L,20R) is received in a recess (12b) provided on the steering rim portion (12a) such that the switches do not project on the steering wheel and the driver may not inadvertently operate the switches (20L,20R).
