A portable card is and a method of operating a portable card disclosed. The portable card comprises an electronic circuit adapted to operate in a first and a second mode, a sensor electronically connected to the circuit, and a power source connected to the circuit. The circuit comprises a processor to transition from the first mode to the second mode when receiving a signal from the sensor where the first mode is a sleep mode and the second mode is an operating mode of the processor. The sensor is a piezo electric element, which is not connected to the power source, and which outputs the signal directly to the processor when being deformed.
