Provided is a method for diagnosing a subject as having or having a propensity to develop cancer chemoresistance, the method comprising detecting in a biological sample of the subject a specified mutation in Keap1 gene and detecting an increase in the expression of Nrf2, GSH, GST, and/or NQO1 marker molecules relative to the expression of Nrf2, GSH, GST, and NQO1 markers in a normal tissue, thereby diagnosing the subject as having or having a propensity to develop chemoresistance. The cancer may be non-small cell lung cancer.
