PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing or delaying an onset of diabetes using peptide antagonists of zonulin.SOLUTION: The method for prevention or delaying the onset of diabetes using peptide antagonists of zonulin, is disclosed. The method for preventing or delaying the onset of diabetes comprises administering to a subject in need of such prevention or delay of onset, a pharmaceutically effective amount of a peptide antagonist of zonulin, wherein the peptide antagonist binds to ZOT (zonula occludens toxin) receptor, yet does not physiologically modulate the opening of mammalian tight junctions.
