PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an active constituent of a pharmaceutical or a diagnostic agent.SOLUTION: In the method, (a) MDCK cells are infected with a virus and (b) the MDCK cells are cultured in a suspension culture on a commercial scale under conditions enabling the virus to multiply, wherein the culture process is carried out in a volume of at least 30 L. In the method for producing a pharmaceutical or a diagnostic agent, the active constituent is produced by the method and mixed with a suitable adjuvant, auxiliary agent, buffering agent, diluting agent or pharmaceutical carrier.
