The generator (1) has a hose (4) made of a resilient film containing electrically active polymers. The hose is permanently introduced in a longitudinal extent of the generator in a flow path (2). The hose comprises an upstream stabilization unit for stabilizing a cross-section of a hose inlet (5). The hose comprises a downstream stabilization unit for stabilizing a cross-section of a hose outlet (9). The hose outlet is opened and closed by a closure device e.g. ball valve (10), and a flap. The hose inlet is fixedly provided in the flow path. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a flow-excited electrical generator.
