In order to improve the visibility of character regions within moving images in devices wherein a screen is small, such as in mobile devices, the disclosed device comprises: a character region extraction unit which detects and cuts out a region containing characters from one frame image within a moving image; an enhancement processing unit which carries out enhancement processing on the cut-out character region; a character region analysis unit which analyses the detected character region; a display period determination processing unit which determines the period for displaying the character region which has undergone enhancement processing due to the result of the analysis; and a synthesis processing unit which synthesises the character region that has undergone enhancement processing into one frame image and during the display period.
