660,146. Cigarette lighters. GANGNEREAU, R. Nov. 5, 1948 [Nov. 15, 1947 ; May 28, 1948], Nos. 28869/48 and 28870/48. Class 75(iii) [Also in Group XV] In a cigarette lighter having a cover which opens through an angle of 180 degrees the cover is moved to the open position by a spring contained in a hollow wheel. The lighter combined with a fountain pen, lipstick case or the like has a body 2 upon which is mounted a cover 3, semi-cylindrical, pivoted on a pin 4 and in driving connection with a friction wheel 5 through lugs 6, and a spring 10 located within and secured at one end to wheel 5 and at the other end to a boss 8 formed on a partition 7 of body 2. On release of a catch 11 the friction wheel 5 and cover 3 are rotated through 180 degrees by spring 10. A flint 12 is pressed against wheel 5 by spring 14 held in position by a peg 15 attached to a safety clip 16 secured to a tube 13 by lugs Fig. 6 (not shown), on the tube 13 projecting into holes in the clip 16. In a modification, Fig. 7, a friction wheel 22 connected or formed integral with a pinion 26 is rotated through an intermediate pinion 25 by a toothed sector 24 formed on a hub 23, enclosing a spring and in driving connection with a cover 21. The ratio of pinion 26 and sector 24 may be altered to vary the angle of rotation of wheel 22. In a further modification, Fig. 13, a flint 41, supported in a central tube 40 passing through a partition 44 separating the lighter body 45 and fuel tank, is pressed against a friction wheel 50 by a spring 49 mounted on a spigot 48 adjustably attached to a thread tail 47 of an ink reservoir or rod 46. A safety clip 29, forms part of a slidable cover locking catch 27. The whole of the outer surface of the friction wheel may be knurled, angular adjustment being provided to present a fresh surface to the flint or, alternatively, the outer surface may be knurled over an angle of 180 degrees. |
