摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording medium capable of reducing a crystal grain size without deteriorating magnetic characteristics of a magnetic recording layer, and thus improving performance such as noise reduction, SNR improvement and write-ability improvement.SOLUTION: The perpendicular magnetic recording medium has at least a soft magnetic lining layer, a nonmagnetic base layer, a ferromagnetic intermediate layer, a non-magnetic intermediate layer, and a perpendicular magnetic recording layer all of which are stacked in this order on a nonmagnetic substrate. The ferromagnetic intermediate layer is formed of a CoCr based alloy, the product Bs/t of ferromagnetic intermediate layer's saturated magnetic flux density and a film thickness is within a range of 0.15-3.6 T nm, and the non-magnetic intermediate layer has a film thickness of 3 nm or larger.
