PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of increasing the selection width of the refractive index of a low refractive index layer, and to provide a projection type display device.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes an element substrate 11 and a counter substrate 12 holding a liquid crystal layer 13 in between. The element substrate 11 includes a pixel electrode 21, the low refractive index layer 35 formed on the pixel electrode 21 by oblique vapor deposition, and a high refractive index layer 36 formed on the low refractive index layer 35 and having a refractive index higher than that of the low refractive index layer 35. |
