PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine which is made compact by attaching an injector to an intake manifold, capable of achieving a protrusion of an injector toward a back of an intake port (a combustion chamber side) so as not to cause a port-wet phenomenon even if atomized fuel is microparticulated, in a state where a negative effect caused by blowback of fuel gas is prevented at a valve overlap.SOLUTION: A tip portion 16a of an injector 16 protrudes toward an intake port 6 rather than a flange 15 of an intake manifold 10. The tip portion 16a of the injector 16 is disposed in a recessed portion 19 formed in a cylinder head 4. A protection portion 20 which covers a tip portion 16b of the injector 16 is integrally formed with the intake manifold 10 in such a state that the protection portion 20 covers the recessed portion 19. A tip portion 20a of the protection portion 20 protrudes ahead of the injector 16. This makes it possible to prevent a tip surface 16c of the injector 16 from being exposed to combustion gas. |
