PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device which is capable of improving display quality by suppressing occurrence of display defects such as a flicker, a method for driving the liquid crystal device, and an electronic apparatus.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device includes an element substrate 10 provided with a pixel electrode 12 and a counter substrate 20 disposed to face the element substrate 10 and provided with a counter electrode 22. A first work function of the pixel electrode 12 is set lower than a second work function of the counter electrode 22. A counter electrode potential which is set so as to reduce flickers caused by a parasitic capacitance of a switching element 40, is applied to the counter electrode 22. When a higher voltage is defined as positive and a lower voltage is defined as negative relative to the counter electrode potential, a positive voltage and a negative voltage are alternately applied to the pixel electrode 12, and a length of a first period for which the positive voltage is applied is set longer than that of a second period for which the negative voltage is applied. |
