PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient and economical process for production of an aluminum hydride compound without use of metallic sodium.SOLUTION: There is provided a compound of formula M(AlHOR), wherein Ris phenyl substituted by at least one of: (i) an alkoxy group having from one to six carbon atoms; and (ii) an alkyl group having from three to twelve carbon atoms; wherein M is an alkali metal, Be or Mg; and y is one or two.
