PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar code reader which prevents failure in reading beforehand without requiring decomposition of a device, individual inspection of component members, etc., and avoids the increase in number of components and doesn't spoil the operability and user-friendliness of the device.SOLUTION: A bar code reader 100 includes: a period measuring means 164 which measures a period required for reading completion; a storage means 165; a period determination means 166 which determines whether the period required for reading completion exceeds a prescribed reference period or not; a proportion calculation means 167 which calculates a proportion of the number of periods required for reading completion, which are determined to exceed the reference period by the period determination means 166, to the total number of periods required for reading completion; a proportion determination means 168 which outputs an alarm instruction when the proportion calculated by the proportion calculation means 167 is higher than a prescribed reference proportion; and an alarm report means 169 which receives the alarm instruction to report an alarm. |
