Disclosed are: a sulfur-based positive electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery, which has excellent cycle characteristics and other excellent characteristics; and a lithium ion secondary battery which comprises the positive electrode. Specifically disclosed is a positive electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery, which comprises a collector and an electrode layer that is formed on the surface of the collector and contains a binder resin, an active material and a conductive assistant. The positive electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery is characterized in that: the active material contains a sulfur-modified polyacrylonitrile that is produced by heating a starting material powder, which is composed of a sulfur powder and a polyacrylonitrile powder, in a closed non-oxidizing atmosphere; and the binder resin contains a polyimide resin and/or a polyamideimide resin. |
