In a snap-action switch, the moving contact or contacts 6 are mounted on one end of a thin flat resilient member having five parallel arms, the central and outer ones of which are in compression and the others in tension. The three central arms 44, 23, 43 are joined at their left hand ends where there is a projection 32 movable in a slot in a support 25 and the outer arms 29, 28, pivot at their left hand ends about a support 27 and at their right hands are joined to the tension arms 44, 43, movement being allowable between a stop 34 and the fixed contacts 19. An L-shaped spring 4 is arranged between the support 25 and the arm 23. In the form shown, pressure on a button 5 carries downwards the right hand end of central arm 23 till a dead centre position is passed whereupon the end 32 snaps upwards in so doing passing through another dead centre position which causes a snap upward movement of the contacts 6. When pressure on the button 5 is removed, the reverse process occurs. The switch may be operated by pressure, temperature or a float. |
