The disclosed vehicle control device, capable of communication connections with multiple types of external rewrite devices which use different communication protocols, is provided with a storage unit which stores a control program, and a control unit which rewrites the aforementioned control program in response to a rewrite command received from the aforementioned external rewrite device connected for communication to the local device. Each time the aforementioned rewrite command is received, the aforementioned control unit determines the type of the external rewrite device connected for communication to the local device on the basis of header information of said received rewrite command. |
