PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for readily and efficiently producing high-purity D-lactic acid at a low cost by using a biological method by bacteria selectively or preferentially assimilating L-lactic acid in a lactic acid solution.SOLUTION: The method for producing the high-purity D-lactic acid includes an L-lactic acid-removing step for increasing the purity of the D-lactic acid by culturing Pichia manshurica of L-lactic acid-assimilating bacterium in the lactic acid solution containing the D-lactic acid and the L-lactic acid to assimilate the L-lactic acid in the lactic acid solution and to heighten the purity of the D-lactic acid.
