PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method that outputs an image of which an uncomfortable feeling is little, when the aspect ratios of an input image and an output image are different.SOLUTION: The image processing method is provided for converting the shape and the size of the input image and the output image. An image processing apparatus has: an over scan setter 122 which sets an amount of cutoff in a horizontal direction so as to be smaller than the amount of cutoff in a vertical direction when setting an over scan to cutoff the periphery of a screen, when the aspect ratio of the input image is vertically long with regard to the aspect ratio of the output image; an over scan processor 142 which takes out the center of the image based on the setting of the over scan setter 122; a magnification factor setter 123 which sets a magnification factor so that the taken out image matches with the size of the output image; and an image magnification processor 143 which magnifies the image with the magnification factor set by the magnification factor setter 123.
