A method and system for recovering personal items left behind or as anti-theft device using a Bluetooth or similar short range communications protocol is provided. A first device can be paired in a piconet configuration with up to seven personal items called slaves, using a Bluetooth or similar communications protocol. In that case, the first device is referred to as the master device and one or more second devices are referred to as the slave devices. When the slave(s) are out of range of the master, the system which is silent while in range, in configuration of negative feedback, the master device transmits a signal (audio, SMS or other type) warning the master holder that the slave is out or range of the piconet, prompting him(her) that he must act accordingly. This can happen when the master, moving away of the slaves, is transmitting a message to the owner of the master that one of the slaves is being out of the piconet range e. g. is left behind and he she must act accordingly or a slave is taken outside of the piconet range e. g. stolen, then the master warns the owner that one of the slaves is taken away and he she must act accordingly. In a different way in the case of theft the slave is moved out of the range, the silent status is disrupted and the master emits an SMS, audio or other signal thus prompting the owner to act accordingly. |
