SIMULATOR FOR SKILL-ORIENTED TRAINING

A simulator (20) for skill-oriented training is presented. The simulator includes a platform (80) having a sensor (82) and provides an immersive virtual training environment (100). The simulator includes a display unit (40) worn by the operator. The unit includes a camera (42), a speaker (48) and a unit sensor (44). The camera and the speaker provide visual and audio output to the operator. The simulator includes a controller (60) and a data processing system (50). The controller includes a sensor (62). The sensors (44, 62, 82) cooperate to provide to the processing system signals representing spatial positioning, angular orientation and movement data of the controller relative to the platform and a work piece (30). In response, the processing system renders the work piece, a virtual coating spray pattern (70), a virtual coating (72) as applied to the work piece and performance guidance in the training environment.
