A marking system includes a fixture (26) having a base (60) and means for receiving a pair of jaws (50,52) in an installed condition. The fixture includes means for articulating the installed jaws relative to the base (60) with at least first and second rotational degrees of freedom. A pair of the jaws (50,52) includes a first jaw (50) having a surface portion (258) generally concave and complementary to a suction side portion (280) of an airfoil (40) of a first turbine engine element (22). A second jaw (52) has a surface portion (260) generally convex and complementary to a pressure side portion (270) of the airfoil (22).
