A starting device for a tubular fluorescent electric discharge lamp comprises an earthed tightly coiled spring under tension lying adjacent the lamp and connected to brackets fixed to holders at each end of the lamp. The fluorescent tube A is mounted in lamp holders A<SP>1</SP> carried by a framework A<SP>2</SP> having a transparent window A<SP>3</SP>. A tightly coiled spring B is arranged under tension in close proximity to the outer surface of the tube A, the ends of the spring B being provided with hooks b engaging apertures in brackets b<SP>1</SP> (one of which is earthed) affixed to the holders A<SP>1</SP>. One or more rubber sleeves b<SP>2</SP> are mounted on the spring B to prevent vibration. Specification 650,585 is referred to, |
