The interface (1) has a translation unit for displacing a tactile detection unit (4) between proximal and distal positions under effect of continuous position. A control unit (5) activates an equipment (14) e.g. activator, based on the detection of a tactile contact on a selection zone of the detection unit. A guiding unit (9A) comprises a rod (15) that is displaced in a cylinder (16). A control system (12) is arranged in an extension part of the rod. A display device is installed under the tactile detection unit that is transparent. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an equipment of a motor vehicle.
