Preparing diaryl carbonate comprises: (a) preparing phosgene by reacting chlorine (11, 12, 30) with carbon monoxide (10); (b) reacting the phosgene with a monophenol in presence of a catalyst to form at least one diaryl carbonate and hydrogen chloride; (c) isolating and processing the diaryl carbonate; (d) isolating and optionally purifying the hydrogen chloride; (e) thermally oxidizing at least part of hydrogen chloride from step (d) to chlorine by oxygen (24) with formation of water; and (f) recirculating at least part of the chlorine prepared in step (e) to the preparation of phosgene. Preparing diaryl carbonate comprises: (a) preparing phosgene by reacting chlorine (11, 12, 30) with carbon monoxide (10); (b) reacting the phosgene with at least one monophenol in the presence of a catalyst to form at least one diaryl carbonate and hydrogen chloride; (c) isolating and processing the diaryl carbonate; (d) isolating and optionally purifying the hydrogen chloride; (e) thermally oxidizing at least part of the hydrogen chloride from step (d) to chlorine by oxygen (24) with formation of water; and (f) recirculating at least part of the chlorine prepared in step (e) to the preparation of phosgene, where the thermal oxidation by oxygen is carried out using one or more catalysts. |
